چکیده

To enable the resource discovery of audiovisual documents over the World Wide Web, it will be necessary to define content description standards or metadata standards for complex, multi-layered, time-dependent information-rich audiovisual data streams. In particular, this is the primary goal of the emerging MPEG-7 standard, the “Multimedia Content Description Interface” under development by the MPEG group. In the past, a lot of effort has gone into generating descriptors and description schemes for video indexing but comparatively little research has been done on schemas capable of defining the structure, content and semantics of video documents and enabling validation and higher levels of automated content checking. This paper compares the capabilities of the RDF Schema, Extensible Markup Language (XML), Document-type Definitions (DTDs), Document Content Description (DCD), and Schema for Object-Oriented XML (SOX), for supporting and validating hierarchical video descriptions based on Dublin Core, MPEG-7 and a specific hierarchical structure. Finally, this paper proposes a hybrid schema based on features from each of these schemas which will satisfy the MPEG-7 Description Definition Language (DDL) requirements.  1999 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. Metadata Enrichment for Automatic Data Entry Based on Relational Data Models

The idea of automatic generation of data entry forms based on data relational models is a common and known idea that has been discussed day by day more than before according to the popularity of agile methods in software development accompanying development of programming tools. One of the requirements of the automation methods, whether in commercial products or the relevant research projects, ...

Conventions for Knowledge Representation via RDF

The Resource Description Framework [RDF] provides a basic model to describe relationships between objects. Ultimately, it is intended to permit the representation, combination and processing of most types of metadata from Web-accessible documents or databases. However, except for representing simple metadata, its current XML-based syntax [RDF syntax] and the set of basic concept/relation types ...

A lightweight web video model with content and context descriptions for integration with linked data

The rapid increase of video data on the Web has warranted an urgent need for effective representation, management and retrieval of web videos. Recently, many studies have been carried out for ontological representation of videos, either using domain dependent or generic schemas such as MPEG-7, MPEG-4, and COMM. In spite of their extensive coverage and sound theoretical grounding, they are yet t...

Interoperable Multimedia Metadata through Similarity-Based Semantic Web Service Discovery

The increasing availability of multimedia (MM) resources, Web services as well as content, on the Web raises the need to automatically discover and process resources out of distributed repositories. However, the heterogeneity of applied metadata schemas and vocabularies – ranging from XML-based schemas such as MPEG-7 to formal knowledge representation approaches – raises interoperability proble...

A Flexible Classification Scheme for Metadata Resources

We introduce a flexible mechanism to classify metadata resources using their elements and attributes. The metadata resources are represented in XML and we assume that they have been created based on some resource schemas. The concept of a classification schema is proposed to construct a taxonomy with metadata resources classified into different categories using classification rules. To define t...
